A rough week at work, coming home on Friday night to the news of the appointment of JFK - Joe Fucking Kinnear, and to learn from my mum that my uncle contracted lung cancer. Can things get any bleaker?

为了你我都开心so be my baby
你是我眼前的唯一so be my baby
不过不巧遇上another rainy day
yeah dude, you gonna be in my group ,
and that's why i wanted you,
see all the thing i will do for you

A or B? Kiam Chye or Chao Loti?

Help! I need your opinions on deciding on the photo to use for my dating agency application form.

Please do not confuse my act of patriotism as a sign of desperation. When I heard the prime minister's plea during the national day's rally, the patriot inside me knew that I have to do something for my country. If not me, then who? If not now, then when?

Now back to the crux of this post. Which photo should I use?

Crisis threatens insurance giant

Concerns are mounting about the future of US insurance giant AIG as investors fear a domino effect in the aftermath of Lehman Brothers' collapse.

Credit ratings agencies, which assess the riskiness of debt, have downgraded AIG - making it more difficult for the firm to borrow money.

New York Governor David Paterson said AIG had one day to raise up to $80bn to stave off bankruptcy.

AIG shares fell 70% in early trade, having fallen 61% on Monday.

Talks between financial firms and officials aimed at helping the struggling insurer are taking place.

"We're in the moment right now as to whether or not they can put something together," Mr Paterson said.

Tough climate

On Monday, the insurer was thrown a $20bn (£11.2bn) lifeline from New York state authorities.

But analysts said it may need further capital for its business to survive:

"While there is a chance the company can work its way through its liquidity problems if it can secure substantial bridge financing, we think this will be challenging to execute it in the current onerous credit environment," said Thomas Gallagher, an analyst at Credit Suisse.

AIG is under pressure to raise money after posting three quarterly losses in a row totalling $18.5bn (£10.3bn).

Talks between AIG, financial services and officials firms will continue on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the New York Federal Reserve said.

Nervous customers

About 100 worried customers of an AIG subsidiary, American International Assurance (AIA), queued outside its Singapore office to check the status of their policies.

Tan Peng Hock, 60, said he did not mind surrendering a policy worth about $42,000 despite possible losses.

"I prefer to hold cash for the time being. It's better to be safe than sorry," Mr Tan told the Reuters news agency.

Singapore's central bank tried to reassure investors. It said that AIA "had sufficient assets in its insurance funds to meet liabilities to policy holders".

Ratings agencies Moody's and Standard & Poor's downgraded credit ratings on AIG debt on Monday.

Wide influence

AIG is much more than an insurance company. It also has a financial products division that is at the heart of many of the firm's current problems.

"Its tentacles reach into every part of the economy," Matthew Bishop of the Economist told the BBC.

He said the consequences of the firm's collapse would be devastating for the financial system.

"It's worse than insurance policies not being valid. They are writing derivative contracts and these have the potential to leave a lot of other banks holding massive losses that they will have to deal with."

Many of AIG's problems are thought to stem from credit default swaps, which insure against companies going bust.

Sir Howard Davies, former chairman of the Financial Services Authority in the UK and a board member of Morgan Stanley, said that the US would be reluctant to let AIG collapse.

"AIG is absolutely enormous. It would create knock-on consequences in insurance markets," he said.

"It is huge in China for example. That would export the American financial crisis there so it would have all kinds of political consequences."

In the UK, AIG is best known as the sponsor of Manchester United.

Oops, she slipped again

There is a question that has been burning at the back of my mind. Recently I have witnessed an increasing number of office ladies type taking a unglamorous tumble while donning their killer heels. As to whether they were floored by my irrepressible charm or smothered by my BO is not up for discussion today.

The question is that when faced with such a sight, how should a guy like myself react?

a) Do the chivalrous thing and offer a helping hand?

b) Pretend nothing has happened and save the hapless damsel from further embarrassment?

My reaction would depends on the situation, if the gal is pretty has a pretty bad fall, I would offer my helping hand. Otherwise, I would just do a Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf and pretend nothing has happened.

Now dear readers (the pitiful few of you), how would you react? I am very interested to hear the ladies' take on this.

Here's a translation for the Red Hair Monkeys (Ang Moh Gaos), and those who are bleeding from the eyes after reading the above atrociously written chinese text.

Somewhere in ancient China...

Man: Wifey, we are a month away from the Mid-Autumn festival.

Woman: Woah, I didn't know you know astrology! I'm so impressed with you hubby!

Man: Nope, I am not verse in the skill of reading the stars.

Woman: I know! Chang-er must had relayed dreams to you! Did she mention whether are there any lifeforms on the moon too?

Man: No leh, Chang-er didn't appear in my dreams.

Woman: Then.. *pinch*

Man: Ouch!!!! What was that for!?

Woman: Told you not to eat so much rabbit meat liao! See la, now the rabbit spirits are haunting you in your dreams liao.

Man: Siao ah! I didn't dream of rabbits lah.

Woman: Huh? Then how you know Mid-Autumn Festival is around the corner?

Man: *fishes out some paper from his robe* The finance companies are sending out their promotional materials on mooncakes mah. Eh how ah, think I want to buy this Dong-bo meat filling mooncake leh. Got 20% discount somemore.

Here's my prediction for next year, credit cards companies will soon offer discount for joss papers and Wang Wang biscuits for the Hungary Ghost festival.

Finally, something watchable on TV !

People, do take time out to catch Half Nelson on Central at 10pm tonight. The performance by Ryan Gosling in the movie is easily one of the better performance by a male actor in the past two to three years. Maybe Mediaco** is trying to atone for the torrent of shitty programs it had been rolling out recently.

In tears...

It must had been one of the most torrid weeks I have endured. Hope quickly dissipated into gloom as the transfer window closed and news of Keegan resignation started to surface.

My heart skipped a beat when I first chanced upon the rumour on Nufc.com while in the office. My heart hoped it was the same old shit stirring by the media again, but as the trickle of news turned into an avalanche, I knew it was for real.

Tuesday night was spent glued in front of the monitor trying to scour for the latest news of the managerial turmoil at my beloved club. Bedtime came without any light shed at the impasse but hope came in the form of a club statement which I read on Wednesday morning, claiming that Keegan has not resigned or was he fired by the club.

Over the next two days, like a next of kin of a critically ill patient, I was filled with cautious optimism that maybe a resolution can be reached between the board and Keegan. But alas, it's all false hope as he tendered his resignation on the ground that the board undermined his authority at the club.

You may find it laughable while I'm getting so worked up over a man and a football club. I don't know how to quantified my affection for this football club. But the feeling is like seeing your childhood sweetheart cheat on you with four other guys and get impregnated by a fifth guy. The feeling sucks, but because of your undying love for the gal, you end up fathering the child as your own.

I'm despondent....maybe I should get a real girlfriend and forget about the club...

Yeah right.

Soyacane jiuce?

Realized that the font settings on the previous post didn't turn out as well as I've expected. That's what you get when you have white fonts on black background. Bah.

Still on the topic of food, the sugarcane juice I had this afternoon tasted like soybean milk. And I was the only one who felt that way. Die la! Tastebud, please don't desert me. I promise I will lay off the insects and roadkills for now.
