Lao Sai Ah!

Two newsworthy local stories happened while I was in China (I was already back when Mr. Fann Wong hit and ran). The first was of course how the haze blanketed Singapore. The other, and the more intriguing one, was how an outbreak of gastric flu floored up to 500 students. While the cause of the haze is well documented, the origin of the gastric flu virus is still up in the air. Checks at the affected schools' canteens showed no contamination thus far, while I believed checks on water sources yielded similar results. Various theories of the outbreak were proposed, but the one below simply tickles me.

Anthony Tan, Principal, Maris Stella High (Primary) School, said, "Normally during exam periods, students tend to be a bit nervous. There are some symptoms... children will sometimes vomit or have diarrhoea. This is quite common..."
