15 years ago, my brother borrowed a cassette tape (such a thing did exist) with the Chinese characters 刘德华 emblazoned on the cover. It was my first real encounter with pop music (no, Standup for Singapore, Five Stars are Rising et al aren't counted) and I fell in love with the hit single, 谢谢你的爱.
It was on perma-repeat mode, which meant I had to keep rewinding the tape. I probably overdid ir as the polyester plastic film snapped from the repeated rewinding. The hours spent trying to stitch the plastic film is still etched firmly in my mind, as is with the lyrics of the song. 15 years on I can still remember every single word of the song, which is quite a feat coming from someone who have difficulties trying to remember a simple four digits number.
In less than 24 hours, I will be watching 刘德华 performing live at the Indoor Stadium. Lets just hope the affable 华仔 would bring back the fond memories of yore by belting out the timeless classic, 谢谢你的爱.
