Horlick Peng

The other day, James and I had dinner at this foodcourt near our respective offices before heading down for our driving lessons. Feeling the need for a caffeine rush, James ordered his usual cup of Kopi while I opted for my usual comfort drink, the malty Horlick Peng, to perk myself up.

The two drink stall assistants, who were circling around the foodcourt like vultures, homed in on us as soon as we took our seats. Speaking with a heavy accented PRC styled mandarin, they proceeded to take our orders:

Drink stall assistant (DSA) 1: “来，两位要喝些怎么？”

James: "咖啡一杯."

DSA 1: "那你呢？"

TYW: "Horlick peng"

DSA 1: "Huh?"

TYW: "Horlick peng"

DSA 1:"Huh?"

DSA 2: "好立克。他要好力克，冰的。"

DSA 1："哦，好立克，我懂。"

A few minutes later.....

DSA 1:"来，先生你的咖啡和好立克。"

TYW: "对不起，我叫的是Horlick peng。"

silence...

TYW: "Er..我叫的是冰的..."

silence...

TYW: "Er..多少钱?"

DSA 1: "一块一毛。谢谢."

James: "你也是 gek qiang, 叫Horlick冷的就好.明知道他们是TKK,还叫怎么Horlick peng? 真是自找得."

TYW: "我以为他们已经入乡随俗了嘛，所以应该听得懂Horlick peng."

James: "笨地，你会去Starbucks叫Kopi sui dai meh?"

Perhaps I should let the drink stall assistants read this.
