Possible alternative career choices II

Last month, I toyed with the idea of being a tennis line judge. However being myopic and having a tendency to focus on the wrong kind of balls, chances are that this job isn't cut out for me.

Yesterday, Fourth of July, was America's Independence Day. Nothing of much significance to us Majulah Singapura singing folks. However Fourth of July, is also the date on which the annual Nathan's Hotdog competition is being held. In this year's edition, the 6 times champion Takeru Kobayashi pushed defending champion Joey Chestnut to an overtime eat-off when both contestants gobbled down 59 hotdogs in 10 minutes. In the exciting overtime eat-off, the defending champion was one bite ahead of Kobayashi and chomped down his 5th hotdog to claim the 2008 hotdog eating crown.

Gasp!

59 hotdogs in 10 minutes, which is close to 6 hotdogs per minute! How can any normal person do that when most of us can barely devour more than 3 hotdogs in 10 minutes. What's more amazing is the fact that Kobayashi-san is only weighs 110 pounds, which is about half of my weight.

I'm not known to excel at many things, but if there is one thing I can do well, that got to be eating. Being a fearless contender myself, I'm far from intimidated by the ~~mind~~ hotdog gobbling feat of Kobayashi and Chestnut. With a little simple arithmetic, and using Kobayashi's weight as a base reference, I will attempt to conjecture the eating potential that is nestled inside my hefty frame. If a 110 pounds chap and gobble down 59 hotdogs in 10 mintues, a close 220 pounds mammoth like myself surely can down around 118 hotdogs in that time. 11.8 hotdogs per minute, I should start tunneling holes to link my nostrils and ears to the digestive tract.

In a tie up with the Singapore Food Festival, Kobayashi and Chestnut will be heading over to our shores in a Satay eating competition to be held at Robertson Quay on July 27. So what's a better way to kickstart my competitive eating career by out-wolfing them in a Satay eating competition. Now, I just need to find a way to swallow the wooden skewers without piercing my throat.
