Number 2.

Day 2 and I realize that

1. The seating arrangement is of paramount importance to your career development. Sitting directly opposite of my manager and diagonally across my VP, it doesn't bode well for my career advancement when they catch me dozing off.

2. Thanks to a certain Mabelline Low, I will sit up and look around when I hear my co-workers mentioning the word "Because".

3. Ominous sign No.2: working till 830pm on my 2nd day of work.

4. Ominous sing No.3: seeing the amount of motivation slogans about endurance, staying happy, not worrying too much; kind of freaks me out about the workplace. Sounds more like a slave house than a reputable company.

Number 1.

The first day at a new workplace is never dull.

1. Entering the office without knowing what might come your way.

2. Like having an ominous start to your new career when the name on the staff pass turns out wrongly.

3. Or figuring what's the preferred language of communication in the office, which is Mandarin.

4. But nothing beats the suspense of knowing whether will there be any eye candies in the office, and thank god for chio poly graduates!

5. The joy of spotting an empty table during lunch hour, only to see packets of tissue paper smacked right in the middle of the seats. The feeling is akin to falling for a hunk only to realize that he's a homosexual or to put it more crudely, having a wild night with a hot babe only to realize that he/she is a tranny. Sigh.

6. And alas, seeing nary anyone leaving at the official knockoff timing spells the death knell for work life balance.

Romance Dawn

"Romance Dawn" is the title of the inaugural chapter of my favourite manga, One Piece. The manga is a grand epic on how the young protagonist, Money D. Luffy, set out to fulfill his dream of being the Pirate King and "Romance Dawn" charts the Luffy's first steps towards achieving his dream as he set sail into the unchartered water.

My own personal "Romance Dawn" will commence tomorrow as I embark on my first full time job. The wait for this day to arrive was tough at times, and I would like to thank those who offered words of encouragement and have shown faith in me. Thank you.

As to what will happen to this blog, I can foresee the number of blog posts plummeting like the share price of China Aviation Oil, given that I have less time on hand. However I will try to make a point of updating regularly for those who still find the time to check out my blog on an occasional basis. Thank you for the support despite the less than entertaining content, poor writing and the glaring grammatical mistakes that have now become a trademark of this blog. Of course, posting pictures of piping hot stunners like Lin Chiling and UNee goes a long way in attracting readers too ;).

PS: Thanks yc, yy, mabel, rs (aka CNN superstar) and Eric for the nice surprise. :)

How To Stop Panda Extinction? Try Porn :

Porn is good. Repeat after me, porn is good.

(AP) After years of painstaking research, scientists say they have unleashed a baby boom among one of the world's most beloved but endangered animals, China's giant panda.

A bit of panda porn has helped too, they say. (more...)

The Forbes Fictional 15:

Who says those working in the finance sectors don't have a sense of humour. (Or maybe the stress has really gotten to them)

The biggest change to this year's list comes at the very top. For the first time in the Fictional 15's history, Santa Claus has been unseated from the number-one spot, replaced by defense contractor Oliver ''Daddy'' Warbucks.

We still estimate Claus' net worth as infinite, but we excluded him from this year's rankings after being bombarded by letters from outraged children insisting that Claus is "real." We don't claim to have settled the ongoing controversy concerning Claus' existence, but after taking into account the physical evidence--toys delivered, milk and cookies devoured--we felt it was safer to remove him from consideration. (more...)

Besides the Santa jibe, I am also tickled by the appearance of one Prince Abakaliki of Nigeria. Prince WHO?, I heard you say. He's the guy from those emails that you delete faster than a blink of the eye. Of course, he's the same guy from Nigeria who needs your financial help to help him get his vast inheritance. It's also heartening to see that the world's most hardworking plumber, Mario, managed to squeeze into the list after collecting gold coins for donkey years. Way to go, Mario!

Have a little Faith

Am I the only one who's excited over the imminent release of 杨乃文 (Faith Yang)'s latest album 女爵? When it comes to music (and maybe a whole slew of other stuffs), my taste is just different from others.

Random Weight Watch of the Day

For those who still give a damn, I'm currently around 104.50, which is 2kg lighter than when I came back from China about a month ago. 2kg in a month, a decent achievement considering friends around me have me piling on the kilos ever since they started work.

Perhaps due to my eagerness to shed more kilos, I overexerted at the gym today and hurt my knee as a result. Damn, but given my previous history of knee injuries I guess I'll have to go easy for the time being and let the knee recuperates.

Just when I wept tears of joy after being informed of my impending SDU membership, the government decided to close down the government run dating agency. 死了死了,怎么办!?

During my free time, i dabbled in a bit of alchemy too. Here's a recipe which I came up over the weekend. Add a generous amount of Calsberg, Tiger Beer, Steamed Crab, Sambal Prawn, Fried Noodle, Scrambled Egg with Prawn, Sushi, Durian Puff, Durian Strudel, Chicken Pie, Curry Chicken, Tapioca Pastry, Jackfruit Cake and Mocha Milkshake and let it simmer in a human conduit for 24 hours to get a Merlion.

Over the weekend, my friend passed me the testimonial written by my superior for the short stint back in the army. While it gave a glowing account of my short stint back in the army, I couldn't help but laugh at some of the exaggerated and dramatic phrases employed."Volunteered himself...","With his maturity, motivation and knowledge....","consistently demonstrated his maturity, discipline and independence...." I feel privileged to have a soldier of his character, knowledge and competence under my command." I wonder if my commanding officer would still think so highly of me if he had caught me taking extended tea breaks and sleeping while he wasn't around.

Changi Village hawkers, merchants and hotel take part in emergency preparedness drill

SINGAPORE: A car exploded at Changi Village on Sunday morning, injuring several residents.

Fortunately, it was only a mock exercise - part of an emergency preparedness drill organised by the Civil Defence and Changi Village Community Emergency Response Team, and SCDF officers arrived within minutes to attend to the situation.

"It's not possible in the fight against terrorism to say that we have reached the optimal point, because the terrorists keep improving and changing their modalities, their methods, and we have to keep up, so it's a never ending issue," said Prof S Jayakumar, Co-ordinating National Security Minister.

While readiness is key in fighting terrorism, Prof Jayakumar said the community plays a vital role in ensuring business continuity in the event of an emergency.

"We have to look at ways to restore the confidence in this particular precinct because the whole idea of why people are attracted to Changi Village is because it is tranquil and peaceful, so something like happening, we have to immediately establish that it is back to normalcy," said Arthur King, Director, Hotal Operations, Changi Village Hotel.

13 community partners, including the Changi Village Hotel, and Hawker and Merchant Association, were activated.

"We have trained 2 of our staff, 1 is a priest and 1 is a temple clerk, so they will be able to handle any initial crisis. They will inform all the community members to come down and they will organise the first-aid and then they will reassure the people. We have amongst ourselves, some lawyers, some social workers, some doctors and all that. We will tap on these expertise," said V M karmegam, Vice-President, Sri Ramar Temple.

As the hawkers here are too busy attending to their stalls to go down to the Civil Defence Public Education Centre, in October, SCDF officers came here to conduct training for some 40 members from the hawker and merchant association.

They were taught life-saving skills such as basic first-aid, CPR, fire-fighting as well as how to deal with threats such as bomb blasts and chemical incidents. - CNA /dt

UK rock beats US scissors
By Tom Geoghegan
BBC News

If you thought "rock, paper, scissors" was a game for kids, think again. The world championships were held last weekend in Toronto and were won by a Briton.

I've never played a world champion at anything, let alone that rare species, a British one.

Bob Cooper has now joined the elite ranks of the England rugby team, Joe Calzaghe, Beth Tweddle and Scotland's stone-skimming team.

The sales manager, 28, from north London, may have conquered the world at rock, paper, scissors - but has he met his match at the BBC?

Round one is mine but only through illegal means - I was unaware that paper has to be made with a horizontally flat hand. Whoops.

But my luck runs out and he wins the next two with ease. Well, he's not world champ for nothing and he seems to read my "throws" with certainty.

So how did he achieve it, last week in Toronto, defeating a field of more than 500 contestants and an American in the final?

"Hard work, training and lots of research into tactics, body language and basic psychology," he says.

His sunglasses helped him to the top prize, he believes.

"It's similar to poker when you're out there bluffing, putting out the right or wrong signals. The eyes give away a lot so the shades are a definite benefit."

Bluffing is called "priming" and enables a player to either fake a move or provoke the opponent into a wrong move, he says.

Sport or hobby?

Cooper spent one or two hours each day training for the event, playing friends and colleagues or studying tactics.

His passion developed from being a game he played as a child, then as a means to settle arguments, then into a sport.

But hang on, is it a sport?

"It is. In how many hobbies do you compete against national champions from Australia, America and Norway? A hobby doesn't involve national pride.

"I was representing the UK, I introduced myself as being from the UK and I was proud to do so."

Cooper's victory is captured on YouTube and shouts of "UK, UK" are clearly heard from the audience, which was estimated to be about 300.

So at a time when England's footballers and rugby players are struggling, and the cricket team is facing a daunting task Down Under, could rock, paper, scissors be a source of national pride?

"Hopefully I could get nominated for Sports Personality of the Year, or we could begin a campaign to reopen nominations," says Cooper.

Public Service Anouncement

This is a public service announcement. I repeat, this is a public service announcement.

1) Good news for those who are intending to purchase Wubai's 纯真年代 CD, HMV has finally stocked their shelves with the CD.

2) Those who found The Prestige to be one hell of a movie, remember to catch Memento on Channel 5 at 1030pm tonight. Memento was one of The Prestige's director, Christopher Nolan, earlier work and personally I feel that it is a better movie that delivered a greater mind bending experience than The Prestige. It has a rather confusing narration, but you will be rewarded once the ending credits roll.

3) For those with access to CNN news channel, do tune in on Thursday, 23rd of November at 1030pm to catch a program on the latest initiative, which my friend rs is a part of, by Singapore Tourism Board to er.. promote Singapore's tourism sector.

Thank you for your attention.

Singapore's most-read newspaper

Besides hatching plots for world domination with Ooof (the current one involves computer games, Lin Chiling, Unee and Pamela Anderson), I also enjoy reading Singapore's top most-read newspaper and spotting mistakes that slipped by the editorial team.

The editorial team placing a disclaimer for their verbatim approach towards reader contributions for their "citizen journalism" section, Stomp. Apparently they forgot to mention that it extends to other sections too.

When I first saw this (page 16, 14th November ST Life!) event listing, I was shocked by the duration of the cycling event. It is stated that the event will last from "Tomorrow night till Sunday morning", so how many bloody rounds around the island are they going to cycle given the 4 days duration? Further down the paragraph, I read that registration closes on Friday which means some participants can actually join midway. Surely that would pose some organizational and logistic problems, wouldn't it? Doing a double take, I realize that the event actually starts on Sat; 8:30pm till 8:30am the next day. I wonder whether will any readers show up next to McDonald's tomorrow and wait for the rest of the contingent to show up?

This news blurb (page 22, 14th November ST Digital Life) would be accurate, circa 2001. However in 2001 the World Wild Fund for Nature, which uses a panda for its logo, sued World Wrestling Federation for the violating uses on the WWF acronym. The wrestling mammoth submitted meekly, like they were locked in Chris Benoit's Crossface Crippler, and acceded the rights to the animal conservation group. It just shows that muscle men are simply for no match for giant pandas.

Beware Singapore's top most-read newspaper, if you continue making such elementary error, Singapore's second most-read newspaper might just catch up with you and relegate you to being Singapore's second most-read newspaper.

Thanks to Singapore's favourite Chinese tabloid (the one with the red masthead), I finally got a name to the model whom I mentioned in yesterday's Random Ejaculation post. Her name is Unee, a Korean model/actress who was recently listed as one of Korea's Top Ten Sexiest Person. Koreans certainly have good tastes.

Those pair of eyes are reminiscent of Ayumi Hamasaki's while the nose looks like it underwent surgery before.

Those pair of legs, and those...nevermind.. are just so perfect that I'm starting to forget about Miss Chiling. 我爱Unee, Unee 爱我,对我来说林志玲算什么!

Despite the furore over whether Crocs shoes are the cause behind the recent escalator mishaps, I couldn't help but chuckle when a little boy besides me bellowed at the top of his voice to his kid sister, "Watch out, you're wearing Crocs slippers", before proceeding blazing the "evil" escalator with his imaginary machine gun.

The case of the murdered Mongolian model, Altantuya Shaariibuu, has been making headlines across the causeway. Gruesome and brutal, but what caught my attention was the pictures of the model that was inaccurately identified as the deceased model. Anyone can ID who this lady is, as I would like her to pay a visit to my dreamland. Hur hur.

Dog lovers, thank god that you aren't in China or you might see your dogs being clubbed like a piece of dirty laundry.

"Singapore's second most-read newspaper, MediaCorp's TODAY, turns 6". Factually accurate, but what's the big deal about being Singapore's second most-read newspaper when 1) there's only Strait Times as your competitor and 2) Today is distributed for free.

Yeah, Newcastle is turning the corner holding Manchester City to a draw. Mind you, we only perform for 5 minutes towards the end of the match to garner a point. Imagine how unstoppable Newcastle will be if they play football for more than 5 minutes! Woot!

My mum actually launch a tirade on Jolin Tsai after seeing how skimpily clad she was in one of her music videos. Totally unacceptable behavior, from my mum of course.

Still on the topics of music videos, Tata Young's El Nin Yo music video looked like some of the videos that I watch when no one is around. Almost everything are similar, from the settings right down to the production values. The only difference was that those actresses in the videos I watch on a regular basis, actually have slimmer figures and flatter abdominals than Miss Young.

One little step closer being the 饼干大亨 (Biscuit Magnate) that I so desire. Those lovely stuffs inside the "Turbo Wind & Rotisserie 2 in 1" oven are cookies, made with heap loads of peanut butter, oats, almonds and walnuts.

The end products are definitely better than those from the first two failed attempts, though my brother still laments that the biscuits are too soft for his liking. That's something for me to work towards the next time round, baking crunchy, tasty cookies that even the eskimos would fancy.

Tall Thor Thaws The Thong Too

My friends often speak of their envy of my height and how they wished their or their boyfriends' limbs would miraculously extend by a few more centimeters. While being tall is aesthetically pleasing, it isn't without its fair share of problems.

I have lost count of the number of times whereby I bumped my head against something.

Or how hard I had to plead my innocence when some kids bawl their eyes out after running into me.

Or how I often run the risk of giving kids free face reconstruction surgeries with a knee smash.

Or how I always risk getting arrowed to be the right marker when the platoon fall in, hence increasing the likelihood of being tekan (punish).

Or how I have to sit through family gatherings where vertically challenged relatives will walked besides me and exclaim: "哇你们看!巨人!" (Hey look! Giant!)

Or even making it more difficult to cheat on my girlfriend/wife as I could be easily spotted in the street with another lady.

Dominating the precious shelve spaces instead are albums by untalented boy bands like 飞轮海, whose members probably can't differentiate a guitar from a pipa. With the exception of Temasek and Raffles, Katong Laksa seems like the most overused term in Singapore.

When you are dead tired and in need of a much needed sleep, would you rather make the attempt to empty your bladder or be content to grab some sleep before waking up for a mid sleep pee?

The term Lao Chio seems to be specifically coined for Vivian Chow, who was in town to promote a certain brand's beauty products. Even at 38, she still radiates sweetness. Aww...

Ah I finally found out why my cookies turned out soft. A change in the oven settings and viola!, a step closer to my biscuit magnate dream.

Unemployment and being a Newcastle Supporter is a potent combination for depression.

I have developed the habit of reading newspapers, a day after its published date.

Watched my first ever film, Days of Glory, at the The Picturehouse. It was one of the rare war films (I had yet to catch Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down and Band of Brothers even though I own the DVDs) that I watched. However it doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the movie, which revolved around the theme of discrimination and inequality faced by the Muslim soldiers who fought valiantly for France during the second World War.

It's ironic that the person who toppled the corrupt incumbent government in Taiwan has the ignominy of being the first ever president to face graft charges while holding office.

遗珠之憾 (二)

I was rendered immobile by a knee operation when they first came to Esplanade for a free showcase.

When they held their farewell gig at Zouk, I couldn't find anyone to go with me.

Critics are quick to point their fingers at their coarse language, citing them to be a negative influence on the youths. It would be unfair to label LMF (LazyMuthaFucka) as merely a foul mouth attention grabbing hip hop outfit. Their lyrics often dwell into the societal problems and economic oppression faced by the Hong Kong citizens. While it may sound incredulous to some, their overt critique of the societal problems had even resulted in them being compared Sam Hui, the popular Cantopop star who was well-known for his light hearted songs on societal issues.

Alas, nothing last forever, and they parted way in 2003 to pursue their personal interest. The featured youtube video is a song named 债 (Debt), which explored the strained relationships among parents and their children. If you understand cantonese, do take a look at their lyrics as it's very meaningful.

Tall Thor Thaws The Thong

I'm not sure whether I'm speaking for other guys, but my ego will be pricked whenever I see a lady of comparable height. When that happens I usually have a routine that I follow, in a desperate attempt to soothe my ego.

1. Take quick glance at her feet, to ascertain whether she's wearing any heels. If she is, heave a sigh of relief and go on admiring other aspects of her body. If not, proceed to step 2.

2. With an air of nonchalance, act oblivious of her presence.

3. Take small discreet steps towards the lady.

4. Just as I passed by her, quickly gauge my height against her.

5. If I am indeed taller, turn back and admire her butt back. If not, go tower over some shortie to soothe bruised ego.

Film fans faint at Saw III show

Staff at a UK cinema have had to call emergency services three times in one night because of a spate of people passing out during horror film Saw III.

One woman was taken to hospital and two other adults were treated by medics after fainting in Stevenage, Herts.

And in a separate case, a man collapsed at a cinema in Peterborough, Cambs, "due to the film's content".

"If you know you're squeamish, don't go," warned a spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service.

"This is obviously a blood-thirsty film. Some of the scenes are fairly horrific," Matthew Ware told the BBC News website.

All the incidents took place on Friday evening, one of the busiest nights of the week for emergency crews, he added.

Discharged

"Taking three ambulances out of the system on a Friday could potentially be a problem", said Mr Ware.

A woman in her 20s was discharged from the Lister Hospital in Stevenage after being treated.

And the two other cinemagoers - who had been at the town's Cineworld complex - were left "in the care of friends and relatives" without needing to be taken to hospital.

A man aged 34 fainted at the Showcase in Peterborough, Mr Ware said.

There was also a case of a 22-year-old woman passing out at Cineworld in Cambridge on Friday, but it had not been confirmed that she was watching Saw III, he added.

The slasher movie is currently number one in both the UK and North American box office charts.

A spokeswoman for the Cineworld chain said they did not wish to comment.

BTBLP Every Night!

With scientific backing, now there's one more reason to BTBLP (Bo Tah Bo Lan Pa, or Bottoms Up or you're a wussy in English)

Wine 'allows guilt-free gluttony'

A chemical found in red wine could make guilt-free gluttony a reality, an international study suggests.

When given to mice, it countered some effects of a high-calorie diet, improving their health and increasing their life-span, the team reported.

However, the chemical could not reverse all consequences of overeating - the mice did not lose any weight.

Writing in the journal Nature, the team said their findings could, in the future, help obese humans.

The molecule, called resveratrol, is found in red grapes or wine.

Previous research has revealed the substance has anti-ageing effects in some organisms, extending the lifespan of yeast by 60%, worms and flies by 30%, and fish by about 60%.

It has also been suggested the reported health benefit of red wine may also be down to the resveratrol.

Healthier mice

To investigate the effects of the molecule on mammals, the researchers looked at middle-aged mice fed on a high-calorie diet, with 60% of the calories coming from fat.

These mice shared many of the problems of humans on an equivalent diet, including obesity, insulin resistance and heart disease.

They discovered the mice given resveratrol alongside their food did not lose weight but they showed decreased glucose levels, healthier hearts and liver tissue, and better motor function compared with the mice on the same diet but without the supplement.

The mice's health was almost in line with that of mice fed on a standard diet, the researchers found.

They also discovered the chemical was improving the mice's life-span. The scientists estimated resveratrol reduced the risk of death in the mice by about 31%, a point similar to the lifespan for the standard diet mice.

The exact mechanism of the chemical is not yet known, but the researchers believe it may be activating a gene called SIRT1, which is linked to a family of proteins thought to be involved with longevity.

Researcher on the study, Dr Rafael de Cabo, from the National Institute on Aging at Harvard Medical School, said: "After six months, resveratrol essentially prevented most of the negative effects of the high calorie diet in mice."

His colleague David Sinclair, associate professor of pathology at Harvard Medical School, said: "The 'healthspan' benefits we saw in the obese mice treated with resveratrol are positive clinical indicators and may mean we can stave of in humans age-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer, but only time and more research will tell."

'Sit back and relax'

In an accompanying article in the journal, Professor Peter Rabinovitch, from the University of Washington, said the findings were potentially good news for humans, but added a note of caution.

"The safety of resveratrol at the high doses in humans comparable to those used by [the researchers] is unknown, especially over the course of years or even decades, when relatively modest side-effects could have dramatic consequences."

He said the next step for the researchers should be to investigate the effects of the chemical in humans.

"For now, we counsel patience. Just sit back and relax with a glass of red wine - which alas, has only 0.3% of the relative resveratrol dose given to the gluttonous mice."

Professor Steve Bloom, head of an obesity research group at Imperial College, London, said: "If we start with the idea that there is an evolutionary advantage for the life expectation of each species, and this is tied into scarcity or abundance of food.

"If there is plenty of food, you'll live a very active life for a while, and then drop dead.

"If there isn't much food, because reproduction takes more energy, it is better to keep a small number of animals going for longer.

"There is a system to regulate it, and it looks like resveratrol bypasses this system or may be an endogenous part of that system.

"This paper is extremely interesting - it could be the breakthrough of the year, with massive possibilities for treating human beings."

饼干大亨 (The Biscuit Magnate)

A week after ruining my virgin cooking baking experience (OH MY GOD!!! that sounds so corny), I'm adamant of not screwing up the second time round. To up the ante, I decided to ditch the whole cookie mix idea and prepare everything from scratch. Armed this recipe, I bought the ingredients needed for baking a simplified version of the recipe, only to realize that my kitchen is already stocked with vanilla extract, baking soda and baking powder. Never underestimate the importance of reconnaissance.

Image(075)
I was so busy preparing the cookie dough with my parents that I didn't snap any pictures of the preparation process, but I managed to snap the cookie dough enjoying their sauna.

Image(076)
At least the cookies turned out regularly shaped this time round. While it tasted somewhat like the soft and chewy cookies that are carried by Subway, it lacks the bite that traditional cookies offer. X quipped that my cookies suffer from erectile dysfunctional problems as it cannot rise up to the occasion. Maybe I should add some Viagra tablets to my cookie dough to eradicate the problem next time round.

To Famous Amos, Khong Guans, Wang Wangs of this world, remember the initial of t.y.w. I'm going to perfect my cookie making skills in no time (that's provided that I don't toast myself to crisp if and when oven explodes on me), and soon there will be a new 饼干大亨 (biscuit magnate) in the house.

CAN YOU SMELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL WHAT T.Y.W IS BAKING!?

November Rain

Let us usher in November with the most kick-ass rock ballad of last decade, November Rain. Ugh, they don't make music like this anymore, do they? Which reminds me, WHO'S THE BLOODY ASSHOLE WHO SCRATCHED MY "USE YOUR ILLUSION I CD"?!

When I look into your eyes

I can see a love restrained

But darlin' when I hold you

Don't you know I feel the same

'Cause nothin' lasts forever

And we both know hearts can change

And it's hard to hold a candle

In the cold November rain

We've been through this such a long long time

Just tryin' to kill the pain

But lovers always come and lovers always go

An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today

Walking away

If we could take the time

to lay it on the line

I could rest my head

Just knowin' that you were mine

All mine

So if you want to love me

then darlin' don't refrain

Or I'll just end up walkin'

In the cold November rain

Do you need some time...on your own

Do you need some time...all alone

Everybody needs some time...

on their own

Don't you know you need some time...all alone

I know it's hard to keep an open heart

When even friends seem out to harm you

But if you could heal a broken heart

Wouldn't time be out to charm you

Sometimes I need some time...on my

own

Sometimes I need some time...all alone

Everybody needs some time...

on their own

Don't you know you need some time...all alone

And when your fears subside

And shadows still remain

I know that you can love me

When there's no one left to blame

So never mind the darkness

We still can find a way

'Cause nothin' lasts forever

Even cold November rain

Don't ya think that you need somebody

Don't ya think that you need someone

Everybody needs somebody

You're not the only one

You're not the only one
